project description
The objective of Protego-Nepal is to remove 10 abandoned boys from the streets of Kathmandu. They will be placed in a Self-Sustaining ‘Safe House’ where shelter, food, clothing, health care and education will be provided in a caring and supervised environment. It is the goal to raise mushrooms and organic vegetables for sale to Katmandu restaurants and hotels. The mushroom huts, when fully built and stocked will bring in about $2000USD a year. It is hoped we can have eight (8) of these huts which will generate about $16,000 a year from the mushrooms and we estimate $2500USD from the vegetables, making the ‘safe house’ self-sustaining. Because girls make up only 10% of the street children we are focusing our initial attention on the boys. If, however, a girl is in need of our help we will revise and accommodate as needed.
